With the founding of WhiteWater in 1980, Geoff Chutter helped establish an industry that continues to bring joy to millions around the globe. A veteran of the water park business, Geoff’s journey began when he left his career as a CPA with KPMG to build his own park in Penticton, B.C. Undeterred by a lack of water slide suppliers, he decided to manufacture his own molds and rides. In that first summer of operations, Geoff was approached by four different groups seeking his help to design and supply attractions for their hometowns.
Four decades on, WhiteWater continues to thrive under Geoff as CEO, firmly established as the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of water park attractions. He realized his vision of creating a one-stop shop that offers all the products and services a client would need to launch their own world-class water park—from master planning and slides to wave equipment and interactive play. Geoff grew the business through synergistic ventures, with a portfolio that now includes water-based amusement rides such as Shoot the Chute and Log Flume; FlowRider® surf simulators, Endless Surf™ lagoons, and Vantage, an attractions management platform. He led the company’s international expansion early on, starting with its first project in Japan in 1985, and later opening offices in Munich, Dubai, Shanghai, and San Diego.
Geoff has earned numerous accolades throughout the years. In 2019, he became the first person from the Pacific region to be named Canada’s EY Entrepreneur Of The Year®. The following year, he was inducted into the World Waterpark Association’s Hall of Fame. In 2021, Geoff was made a Fellow (FCPA) by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada. And in 2024, he was inducted into the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of P. T. Barnum and Walt Disney. Under Geoff’s stewardship, WhiteWater has also been consistently recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, achieving Gold Standard in 2022.
