“HOP” – Human & Organizational Performance

A big EHSCBC thank you to Jenny Colman from WorkSafeBC, presenting to members and guests on “HOP” – Human & Organizational Performance. This operational philosophy focuses on improving ways that people in organizations act, and understanding why errors occur, and trying to fix them before they occur.

The goal of HOP is to become less surprised by human error and failures within the system of work:  embracing the philosophy will help dig deeper into your operational systems.

HOP principles:

Most errors occur because we don’t get enough feedback. Is the error visible? Is it reversible? Is it recoverable before harm is done?

Jenny had some suggestions about how to become a learning organization:

Learn how the issues occur and how to address them directly. If you don’t have a good conversation with your teams then you don’t have a good idea of what you’re addressing until it’s too late.

For members who missed the presentation, it was recorded and added to the Video Library.  You can also download the presentation deck here.
