WorkSafeBC’s Consultation and Education Services department in prevention has led the development of a number of innovative interactive visualization tools that showcase an organization’s and an industry’s health and safety story, performance and improvement opportunities. As an organizational leader you play a key role in setting the values around measurement, use of data and its opportunities – a key driver in performance improvement. Today’s presentation will highlight some of WorkSafeBC’s data applications, their primary uses, the data stories that they provide and the opportunities they present for your organization. WorkSafeBC is a leading jurisdiction regarding the development of interactive data applications and the presentation of visual data stories with stakeholders. A number of the interactive data applications that will be highlighted today have been promoted across Canada and shared with other jurisdictions.

Adrian Cook – Manager of WorkSafeBC’s Safety Culture and Leadership team
An innovative leader within WorkSafeBC’s health and safety consulting strategy Adrian is currently manager of WorkSafeBC’s Safety Culture and Leadership team. For the last 16 years his primary role has been to engage with larger employers in British Columbia to improve health and safety performance, focusing on active health and safety management and health and safety culture change. Adrian has a passion for creating practical tools and resources to help employers improve their health and safety performance including data based health and safety planning tools, various best practice publications and videos and proprietary health and safety culture assessment tools. He is a key architect within WorkSafeBC’s health and safety information sharing strategy and design lead for WorkSafeBC’s employer data analysis tool the Employer Health and Safety Planning Tool Kit (EHSPTK). In September 2021 he represented WorkSafeBC at the XXII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work; one of the largest global forums for the international occupational health and safety community, where he designed and moderated a symposia on “Building a strong OSH Culture”.
Mike Paine – Manager of WorkSafeBC’s Safety Culture and Leadership team
A passionate health and safety professional, Mike brings many years of operational/HR experience along with more than 15 years of employer consulting work with WorkSafeBC, and currently as a Manager, Safety Culture & Leadership. Mike is keen to explore with employers how leaders influence front-line workers’ safe work practices and ultimately safety culture. He has engaged with numerous BC employers to develop strategies to focus on safety leadership, communication, worker engagement and other key dimensions of workplace health and safety culture. Mike believes in opening new conversations leading to a common understanding of safety as an organizational ‘value’ and where everyone shares responsibility for workplace safety. Mike has led employer engagements across a number of sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution.
