What a fabulous turn out for our return to in-person meetings at the 2022 EHSCBC Round Table event! On October 6th, over 50 members and guests attended the full day event, beginning with coffee and breakfast bites. Members gathered, sipping coffee, and checked in to what would be a day filled with networking, learning, and sharing. They all entered the impressive main session room – and it felt like a day with the United Nations!
We began our day with two dynamic speakers: Kate Baillie, VP Marketing, Communications and Client Experience with Technical Safety BC, and Melanie Vipond, Partner at Law Firm Gall, Legge, Grant & Zwack LLP.
These two presentations were incredibly relevant and meaningful, with real-life examples of what has happened and what members need to be aware of. Members were grateful for these presentations, and we were very fortunate to have these two powerful speakers at the Round Table. Thank you to both Kate and Melanie for your time and commitment to helping build strong Health and Safety cultures!
Members then headed down to the lunchroom for some sustenance, and broke out into 5 tables, each with a different topic. Mental Health, Travel for Work policies, Statutory Holidays, Work from Home and Return to Work were all topics that members covered. Table groups reported back on their findings, sharing great insights and experiences.
Back upstairs in the main session room, members were privileged to hear from Laurence Beatch, an Executive Member of the HR Team at the City of Vancouver. You could hear a pin drop in the room, during Laurence’s presentation! Laurence spoke of his personal safety journey, and how his various life experiences have helped him deliver on his commitment to Health and Safety at the City of Vancouver. Members got so much out of this engaging speaker, and he has graciously shared some of the documents he referenced. A special thanks to Laurence for his participation throughout the day a the Round Table.
Sessions from our morning speakers (Kate and Melanie) and keynote speaker (Laurence) were recorded, and will be added to the EHSCBC video library for members to review. There are also some of the programs and reference materials that Laurence prepared that will be available for members use.
To top off a great afternoon of sharing and learning, members gathered over cocktails and nibbles to celebrate another successful Round Table event. It was great to be able to gather together, in-person, and we look forward to our next event with you all!
Thank you to all of the Council’s sponsors: WorkSafeBC, SureWerx, Technical Safety BC, KPMG, CapriCMW, Work Wellness Institute, Goodwin Electric and Kerry Foods. Without your support the event would not have been as great as it was. You are helping to make BC the safest place to work in Canada.
