Ruby Ng, the CEO of Canadian Mental Health Fraser Branch, gave an informative presentation on the Canadian Mental Health Association and the programs and services that the Fraser Branch specifically offers to the community.
The national Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) helps people access the community resources they need to build resilience and support recovery from mental illness or addiction, by building capacity, influencing policy, providing services, and developing resources.
BC has 13 CMHA branches that focus on community delivery.
The Fraser Branch covers the geographic area of UBC to Abbotsford, and programs can include anything from mental health literacy to recovery (transition homes). Ruby stresses that although programs are available, psychological health and safety is a joint responsibility. Individuals are responsible for their own mental health plan and the employer needs to provide support for that.
