BC Transit Site Tour a HUGE (and FUN) success

On Friday June 21 members and guests (potential members) of the EHSCBC met at the corporate offices of BC Transit for a conversation and site tour of their operations.  Hosted by Tim Croyle and his team, members were introduced to BC Transit and some of the many issues that they experience.

Following the discussion, attendees were given an in-depth site tour, learning about different types of busses, maintenance and staffing issues, and upcoming projects.  A highlight for some was the electrification process and how this affects scheduling.

After the tour, members were offered the opportunity to Drive a bus!  And not just any bus, they drove a double decker, with a certified training officer giving instructions.  Although a little daunting at first, all drivers successfully completed the circuit with no accidents or injuries.

Once all drivers had their chance, BC Transit drove everyone downtown by bus to have lunch, a guided tour of the harbour, and finished with a networking event at the Flying Otter.

Many thanks Tim and his team (especially Cara) for a wonderful event.  The learning, sharing and teaching was spectacular, and everyone left with their “safety filters” turned up.
